DIY Bathroom Remodel and Pink Tile Ideas

Happy Saturday Darling!

I recently posted our DIY bathroom remodel project before and after pictures on my Instagram and received so many messages asking about how we did this. Believe it or not, this was actually something we were able to complete in a weekend! Tristan and I have done a lot of projects since moving in, but this bathroom update was my favorite! I’ll give you the quick rundown on how we did this bathroom update on a budget in 2 days and the products we used!

Step one: Get some Inspiration

I have a Pinterest board for each room in my house with ideas on colors, decorations, and anything that seems to catch my eye. When we decided it was time to start on the bathroom, I knew I loved the white and gray color combo and and wanted to do some type of tile on the floor. I picked Garden Trowel Gray from Magnolia Paints at Wexford Ace Hardware, and bought Homax Tough as Tile paint from Lowe’s for the wall tile.

Step 2: Prep Work!

First, remove everything from your bathroom so you have room to work! If you decide to paint your wall tiles, the prep work is SO important. I’m usually one to cut corners when it comes to prepping because I’m so excited to get started, but with this Homax Tile Paint, you must prep! The prep directions that come with this paint is pretty specific. We started by washing the tile, using steel wool, and drying with rubbing alcohol. We repeated this process twice. Make sure your tile is completely dry before starting to paint! If there is any type of residue left on the tile, your paint will not adhere in those areas.

Step 3: Paint your Wall Tile

We were nervous to paint the tile because this is a product we haven’t used before. I’ll be honest … the first coat is going to look pretty rough, especially if you are painting over a dark or bright colored tile. Once you roll the Homax Tile Paint on, you can’t go over it until it completely dries. The directions will explain this, but you’ll want to set your timer for 3 hours after the first coat is on, and start a second coat immediately at 3 hours. We did 3 coats on our wall. After your final coat is on, don’t use your shower for at least 48 hours!

Step 4: Paint Your Walls

We picked Garden Trowel Gray from Magnolia Paints to paint the walls in our bathroom. We got it made at Wexford Ace Hardware. I love this gray, it’s also in our guest bedroom and basement! Note: do NOT tape off the tile that you painted with painters tape! You cannot put tape or suction cups on the Homax Tile Paint

Step 5: Tile

We ripped up the linoleum flooring with a heat gun, and decided to tile it! We chose 12x24in tiles in white and grout in Charcoal.

Step 6: Add New Fixtures and Decorate

Our old black and green vanity absolutely had to go! We picked this $99 white vanity from Lowe’s that fit our bathroom perfectly. I also picked new glass light shades and clear light bulbs to give it a more updated look. My Newfie in the tub artwork is from Etsy! This artist has this paintings in all different dog breeds!

Overall, we would rate the tile paint a 7 out of 10. It is a lot cheaper and less time consuming than retiling a bathroom, but is definitely obvious that it is painted. We were able to do this whole project including the new vanity under $400.

Entryway Makeover

 Entryway makeover

After reading Homebody, a guide on interior design by Joanna Gaines, I was inspired by the idea that the entryway of your home is the first thing that welcomes you when you walk inside, and is the first thing a guest sees when they visit. An entryway should feel welcoming, “homey”, and have a few things that tell a story about you and your family.

It took some brainstorming to decide exactly what we wanted to do for our entryway makeover. When you first walked into our home you were originally greeted by a plain wall and closet – pretty boring and doesn’t exactly scream “make yourself at home.” I personally love accent walls and thought that having some type of design on the wall would give it some character. I knew that I wanted a ledge to put pictures on, and wanted the wall to be functional at the same time.

Entryway makeover

We decided to do a board and batten design with a ledge, and added hooks to hang our coats. Tristan actually surprised me with this board and batten wall while I was out of town! He turned our vision into a reality by using scraps of wood and left over paint in the basement. The board and batten on this wall really made it come to life! Here is a tiktok DIY on how we did our board and batten bedroom. You can get as creative as you want with the wood you choose and how you place it on the wall. We used a staple gun to put the wood on the wall and a drill to add the hooks. We added 16×20 photos to the ledge for the perfect christmas decor. The wall color is called Renewed by Magnolia. We got our paint made at Wexford Ace Hardware.

Entryway makeover

The following weekend we decided our entryway still needed something to be complete, and decided to tackle the closet project. We started by emptying everything out of the closet and removing some shelving that we no longer wanted. I painted the inside of the closet while Tristan went to purchase wood for the bench (we used 10in wide pieces). He also put hooks on the wall inside the nook to make it more functional. Before we knew it, our once ugly closet was turned into an adorable nook that greets us when we walk in the door!

Now, let’s talk about the decor. It’s December, so I have a full holiday theme going on in this entryway. The photos are done by artists on etsy. I purchased my custom “Tree Farm” sign special for my newfoundland because his breed is used to pull Christmas trees! We love going to Christmas tree farms so I felt like it adds a little bit of “us” to the entryway. Here is a link to the pine tree prints, too. For the nook, I have been absolutely in love with these mini houses this season. I have about 30 of them all over my house! The pillows and blanket are from Homegoods. My favorite decoration in the nook is my “home” sign from Wexford Ace Hardware. The “O” in home can be switched out seasonal with all different pictures and items that Ace sells, so it will always be seasonally relevant!

Hey Darling!

So remind me why we even bought 2020 planners this year? If you follow me on Instagram, you may already know that Tristan and I had to postpone our wedding in May… and again in June… and now we have completely canceled our plans and are back at square one! Starting the wedding planning process all over has brought us all kinds of emotions from feeling refreshed to plain old stressed out. On the bright side, I’ve been having so much fun brainstorming wedding decor ideas!

I’ve been rethinking this whole fancy shmancy wedding thing and am leaning towards something a little more casual. While I was out and about with my mom the other day, I came across this old typewriter for $20. I thought it would make for some super cute wedding decor so I decided to go for it! With some help from my local Wexford Ace Hardware, and some fun finds around my apartment, this inexpensive project took me about an hour to complete and will be such an adorable display at our wedding!

If you are unable to find a typewriter at a local antique or thrift shop, try checking out Craigslist or eBay!

Here are the steps I took to give this old typewriter a serious glow-up!

Step 1: Clean it up

Wedding DIY

First, I took some Mrs. Meyer’s Mutli-Surface Cleaner and wiped my typewriter down to remove all of the dirt and dust. This only took about five minutes and helped my final product look clean and neat.

Step 2: Tape and Prime

Wedding DIY

I used masking tape to cover parts of the typewriter that I didn’t want any paint to touch. I used two coats of this primer from Ace to help my pink paint adhere to the metal typewriter.

Step 3: Paint!

Painting my typewriter was fairly easy and painless! I chose Benjamin Moore paint in the color “Pink Harmony” from Wexford Ace. To get the perfect shade and coverage, I used three coats of paint. I removed the tape and wa-la!, a perfectly pink typewriter!

Step 4: Decorate!

Wedding DIY

Now it’s time to get creative! Decorating was my favorite part of this whole project! I used flameless candles from Wexford Ace Hardware, mini frames I bought at a garage sale, and fake succulents from Home Goods. For the finishing touch, I used this Etsy Shop to add the CUTEST letter to my typewriter.
